"Golden Harvest" by Anita Magsaysay-Ho 24" x 24" Oil on Canvas 2000
"Golden Harvest" by Philippine modernism pioneer Anita Magsaysay-Ho is an exquisite example
of her latter day work which incorporated refined rather than bold strokes, simpler lines and
brighter hues. It was during this period when she chose to paint her women with less pronounced jaws
and more rounded figures.
Still, she remained true to her premise that all women engaged in noble
endeavors
deserve praise and should be aptly recognized.
The lovely painting itself is teeming with pride and joy as three young maidens willfully work
hand-in-hand in
harvesting grains under the golden sunlight.
The allusion to abundance and prosperity
while obvious and cannot be denied
seems but an after thought
to her underlying motive of uplifting the role of women,
no matter how
mundane
their tasks may be, into something distinctly honorable.
Anita Magsaysay-Ho is undoubtedly the greatest Filipina painter of all time having been part
of the original 13 Moderns
and blazing the trail for feminine expression in our land and worldwide as she lived in Hong Kong,
Tokyo, São Paulo and New York.
Her works are the most coveted in Philippine art, fetching the highest prices at local and
international auctions
with record breaking peaks.
She was also known to have painted very few works
in her lifetime and therefore each one is considered important.
"Golden Harvest" was bought by its initial owner from a fund raising auction hosted by the
Philippine General Hospital Foundation
sometime in the early 2000's. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity which was
signed by the artist herself during a 2006 visit to her residence
by Gallery BiG owner Jonathan Sy.
It is in excellent and stable condition having been recently cleaned and preserved
by one of the country's foremost
art restorer Helmut Zotter.
This rare, museum quality painting is hereby offered for sale to the serious collector at Php12M.
